2016-01-02 Sat
2006 saw no issue of a Tiffany Art series coin by Liberia. Palau issued one in 2007 and has been issuing one each year. The coin features Renaissance architecture designed by the famous Michelangelo Buonarotti.Michelangelo needs no introduction. He is known in history for his sculptures, especially the marble statue ‘David’, his fresco paintings like the ones painted on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, and as an architect.
The obverse of the coin depicts the window of his Palazzo Farnese in Rome while the reverse depicts a section of the new Sacristy of San Lorenzo in Florence where Michelangelo designed the tomb chapel of the Medici family in 1520 CE. The blue glass embedded in the windows on both sides is manufactured by the Tiffany Glass and Decoration Company using their special, patented technique and each pane is unique and marvellous.
